I grow a white rose for the true Friend who gives me his hand freely.
For him who wills me ill, and tries this heart with which I live,
Neither thistles nor nettles I grow.
I grow a white rose.
(Peruvian song)
Christian values
Our goals are
2. Respect all who practice, bow to each other, help each other to learn
3. Be humble, there are many ways to get to where you are going.
4. Be honest, Aikido is not fake, if the technique does not work help each other to make it work
5. Live a moral life, both in the Dojo and out
6. Be generous with time and money
7. Practice what you preach on the mats and off
8. Don't be self-righteous, learn to blend with your partners, and treat them as you would want to be treated
9. Don't hold a grudge; it is a waste of time and energy
10. Forgive others, especially enemies as GOD has forgiven you thru CHRIST (who has ever suffered more for you than JESUS)
11. Active non-violence, one of the keys to successful practice
12. Benevolence to strangers & enemies
13. Overcoming evil with good
14. Unconditional love for all, especially enemies
…This is a start of values that we can work on.
Having listed all of these goals / values you must understand that we have not arrived, but we have left!
You must also understand that as a born again Christian we are no longer under the law but under grace.
Galatians 2:16 “knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”
John 6: 28-29 “Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, this is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
Biblical principals for Aikido
NKJV References
A) The Bible is one of the ways we communicate with God and learn about Him. The Old Testament was the way God dealt with us both before the law and after it, now under the New Testament we are no longer under the law, but grace and God has giving us a new sprit that live with in us, so He is no longer mad with us and deals with us as a member of his family.
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
1Corinthians 3: 16 “Do you know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
B) We must practice Aikido over and over, the way we want to use it. So when or if we have to use it, we make no decisions it should be an autonomic reflex. (Note: when I was younger I practiced Karate for a short time, we pulled all of our strikes. So when I had to use it I pulled all my strikes, thank you God)
Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man. But its end is the way of death.”
2Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
C) We must practice to learn to use the aggression of the other person(s) in a way to protect them, not to injure them. In other words we take their aggression and lead it in such a way to protect ourselves and them. This redirection of their force may result in a throw or controlling technique. Any pain received by the aggressor is temporary and the end result is that any destructive energy used by the attacker is harmlessly dispersed, and balance or harmony is restored. Practicing this way allows your partner to survive his attack and to attack again and again. Defending yourself this way not only allows your attacker to survive, but also grants him the opportunity to make better decisions in the future!
Matthew 5:39 “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right check, turn the other to him also”
1Corinthians 1:27 “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;”
Luke 6:27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”
Romans 12:17 “Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.”
1Thessalonians 5:15 “See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.”
Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
